History of Buckeye Hardwoods

A Story of Quality Products, Excellent Service, and Competitive Prices

Gray Wolf Peak in the Mission Mountians near ArleeBuckeye Hardwood & Lumber Co., located in Arlee, Montana, in the beautiful Jocko Valley just north of Missoula originated as the western end of a business that had is beginnings in a partnership formed in Mecca, Ohio. Buckeye Hardwoods started wholesaling small quantities of hardwoods westward in 1984.  After a fire in a neighboring dry kiln destroyed a large quantity of Buckeye's inventory, the partners (including Hank Adams, current owner/manager) decided to build their own dry kiln in Eastern Ohio to maintain better control over their products.

Main Mill & Showroom Location in ArleeIn 1995, Buckeye Hardwood & Lumber, LLC was formed to market products in a more efficient manner.  As the co-owner and manager, Hank Adams began to find other lumber and flooring mills that paid great attention to detail and produced quality products.  As a result, Buckeye Hardwoods gradually began to purchase all of its lumber already kiln-dried.

By 2002, Buckeye Hardwood & Lumber, LLC had grown to the point that a new building and additional machinery were needed to provide faster and more precise output to its customers.  A new millworks building was put up and growth continues today.  Also by 2002, Buckeye Hardwood & Lumber, LLC had outgrown its station as an LLC and became incorporated in Montana under the name Buckeye Hardwood & Lumber Co.

Arlee Showroom

Buckeye Hardwood & Lumber Company continues to grow.  After the original addition in 2002, four more additions have been integrated into the original building, turning our original mill into a flooring warehouse, and adding a lumber warehouse, a separate mill area, and a stair tread workshop.

Buckeye has now grown from a small two-man business, managed in Hank's home workshop into a great competitor in the hardwood lumber, flooring, and millworks industry in not only Western Montana, but the entire Northwest Region.  The goal of Buckeye Hardwoods continues to focus on providing excellent service and maintaining quality products at a reasonable price for Montanans.
